Swedish Blue Anchor Chain Bracelets
$ 65.00
There are only 3 Swedish Blue Achor Chain Bracelets as I only had 3 small pieces of material.
Swedish Blue, also known as Bergslaggsten, is a historic slag glass from iron smelting in the 1600's. Central Sweden, Bergslagen area has had mining, metal smelting, and metalworking since the 13th century. They used small coal ovens to make the iron. The stone was formed when the oven was hot enough to glaze the ore. The slag floated at the top of the melt and was discharged from the oven before the metal. The blue-green shades come from copper and other minerals suspended in silica. Its similar to volcanic glass.
Although Swedish Blue is a runoff from a man made smelting process, it's comprised of all natural minerals. Some pieces are translucent, others opaque, and many times you see a mixture of both in one piece.
I got this piece of Swediah Blue from the miners themselves at the Denver Gem Show. It's been very popular at shows, and I plan to get more this year. I'm mostly Swedish and Norwegian so it's fun to have a material that represents my heritage.
